Michaelmas
A time to celebrate courage, inner strength, and the light we carry within.
What Is Michaelmas?
Michaelmas is a seasonal festival celebrated in Waldorf schools around the world. It is a time to reflect on courage, inner strength, and the changing rhythms of nature.
At the heart of the festival is the story of Michael and the dragon. The dragon symbolizes the fears and challenges we encounter in life, while Michael represents the courage and determination we can discover within ourselves.
The story reminds us that courage is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to meet life's challenges with strength and an open heart.

Bringing the Story to Life
At Mālamalama Waldorf School, Michaelmas comes alive through storytelling, music, movement, and dramatic performances.
Children participate in ways that reflect their age and stage of development. Through preparing costumes, learning songs, and bringing the story of Michael and the dragon to life, students become active participants in the celebration.
Together, they experience the joy of creativity, cooperation, and shared accomplishment.
